Landscape Orientation
The Wave is located along the Utah/Arizona border in the Coyote Buttes region of the Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness.
It was featured in the February 2012 issue of National Geographic magazine where The Wave was described as "a
tumult of stripped, fossilized dunes that look like petrified surf.......what's been left behind by long ages of erosion
- rough waves of smooth, banded sandstone....". It was also described as "hard to imagine". I agree.
